Note From The Editor
Greetings Discerning Readers,

The Bureau of Reclamation is the water-lord of the West. They are the largest wholesaler of water in the country and provide water to more than 31 million people in 17 western states as well as irrigation water for 10 million farmland acres that produce 60% of the nation's vegetables and 25% of its fruits and nuts.

The sobering realization that they don't have enough water for their tenants is leading them to investigate new technologies and methods of operation so that they can better perform their job before the situation gets ugly. Reclamation is an agency in the Department of the Interior, which is responsible for orchestrating Water 2025 http://www.doi.gov/water2025/ . The program focuses on preventing crisis and conflict in the West over water shortages through conservation and efficiency.

Reclamation's mission statement reads:
"The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public."- So I called them to sell them some pipe.

Their Commissioner, John Keys, is refreshingly approachable - or his secretary is very gullible and believed everything I told her about my great importance in the scheme of things. Anyway, when I asked Keys about HDPE, he led me to the guy that knew the guy who was the guy who answered my question about HDPE with, "we gotta guy." This guy was attending the AWWA conference in Florida learning more about HDPE.

Hopefully the "guy," will come back from the AWWA show armed with the knowledge that HDPE weaves nicely into Reclamation's mission statement by being the best tool to environmentally protect and conserve water in an economically sound manner for the interest and future of the American public.

Productivity Tip
This month's productivity tip comes from Kean Chin , McElroy Software Engineer. DataLoggerT

If the printer is supposed to print a graphic and lines of characters or symbols appear instead, then this problem is usually related to the battery power in the printer.

When the printer prints graphics, it draws more current than when printing text characters. If the battery is weak while printing graphics, the power circuit in the printer will shutdown and cause the printer to go into reset mode. When the printer comes out of reset mode, it defaults to text mode, and treats everything it receives from the DataLogger as text. That is why you see text characters or symbols in the middle of your graphs.

To solve this problem, make sure the printer battery is charged and perhaps plug in the AC adapter while you are printing. Also make sure you have the 1800mA or 2000mA printer charger that came with the DataLogger kit.

State Of The Infrastructure

Case Studies

Located 70 miles south of Salt Lake City , the town of Eureka is part of Utah 's historic Tintic Mining District. For more than 100 years, miners took lead, silver, zinc and copper from some of the most bountiful mines in the country. This prosperity has come at a price and the area is now a superfund site. The fast paced cleanup involves the construction of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline to carry vast amounts of water to the restoration areas for dust suppression. Read Article
