| McElroy’s TracStar® 500 was the first fusion machine in the world to be mounted on a track system, making it mobile in almost any terrain. Considered the flagship of McElroy machines, its success spawned the entire line of TracStar fusion equipment. The TracStar 500 Series II is a self-contained, self-propelled, all-terrain fusion machine capable of butt fusion of 6” IPS to 20” OD (180mm to 500mm) pipe sizes. Also available is the Automated TracStar 500 that guides the operator through a step-by-step procedure for fusing pipe. The automated option offers automated control over the heat, soak, fuse, and cool cycles of the fusion process. A hydraulic clamping kits is available for all TracStar 500s.

McElroy will have a booth at this year’s Underground Construction Technology (UCT) International Conference & Exhibition. The 2012 event will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from January 24 through 26. The conference offers more than 100 education sessions and a large group of exhibitors, including McElroy at booth 240.

A major focus of the holiday season is what takes place at the North Pole. While we can’t produce pictures of Santa or elves fusing pipe, we can offer these pictures from Kevin Watson of Scarborough Supply. The fusion operations pictured are taking place in Alert, Nunavut, Canada in the northernmost permanently inhabited settlement in the world (508 miles from the North Pole).
